The greatest hindrance to growth in any organization, or in any individual career is poor communication, both up and down the ladder. In today's highly charged and divisive environment, saying the wrong thing (or the right thing in the wrong way!) can make or break a conversation. Most people get ahead (or not) based on how they relate to others, and so many projects fail because of lack of – or poor communication. 

This engaging and interactive program gives you the skills you need to get results. It steeps down the core competencies of impactful, respectful communication and leaves you understanding how to respectfully get things done. 

After completing this session, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the toxic results of poor communication
  • Comprehend the goal of all truly influential communicators
  • Identify the three essential premises of all effective communication

While no one enjoys conflict, it is often inevitable in a working environment.  Unnecessary conflict can, at very least, affect production, morale and employee retention. At worst, unresolved conflict can cripple an organization.

The most successful and dynamic organizations, corporations and individuals learn how to prevent manage and resolve conflict in a manner that is respectful and drama free!  

These skills do not typically come naturally, but they can be learned! Participants will leave this program understanding how to prevent most conflict before it arises and how to manage that which can’t be prevented, to minimize its effect on individuals and the overall organization.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the value of conflict prevention vs. conflict management
  • Know how to function successfully in the midst of on-going conflict

Workforce diversity in the 21st century focuses less on what group a person is identified with and more on everyone’s unique perspectives. This workshop is an overview intended to increase participants’ awareness of diversity issues in the workplace as well as their acceptance and appreciation of the unique perspectives and backgrounds of others. Participants will learn to identify and examine one’s own stereotypes and prejudices and how these may influence behaviors and responses. Learn how recognizing barriers to accepting diversity can help remove them and create an academic and workplace success environment. Participants will identify ways to promote respect and dignity for others.

This program is designed to assist the campus community in identifying students with mental health concerns.  This training is available for all faculty, staff and students at Northwest!  It is a two-part training including a 1-hour online Training Camp and a 2-hour in-person training held here on campus. Select to register.

C.A.L.M. in crisis helps build skills across our campus and community and focuses on:
-Improving awareness of the risk factors and warning signs of suicide
-How to recognize and respond when warnings signs occur
-When/how to refer to available resources on campus and in the community
-Ways in which to offer hope
-The importance of managing personal wellness throughout the process

Important Note: This is a two-part training requiring completion of an online component, Training Camp, as well as an in-person component. Training Camp needs to be completed in Northwest Online within two weeks of the in-person training date you select. Information to access Training Camp will be sent via email 2 weeks prior to the in-person training. 

Content includes a brief overview of mental health concerns on campus, as well as breaking down each component of the C.A.L.M. acronym. After completion of both training components, attendees will be emailed a certificate of completion.

This session counts as three Career Pathing sessions.

The goal of these events is to help students gain interviewing experience by meeting either face-to-face or on Zoom with real employers. During the interview, the employers will provide students with feedback on their resume, interview responses, and overall impression. We encourage employers to use their own interview format to make mock interviews as close to a real interview as possible.

Typically, each mock interview session will be approximately 30 minutes, which allows:

  • 20 minutes to conduct the interview
  • 5-10 minutes to critique the resume/interviewing skills and provide feedback

You may attend more than one mock interview day and receive credit towards the Career Pathing Program for those you attend.
